Domestic American Building Survey
This is the first project of the semester on Residential Architecture & Housing. It conveys an introduction to the discipline of Architecture through a rigorous precedent analysis. An architectural precedent is an exemplary model of a work of architecture capable of imparting knowledge. Furthermore, a precedent establishes conventions in architectural composition deployed over millennia in response to a culture, climate, materiality, technology, use and form. In analyzing a given precedent, students will engage in questions of convention, tradition, repetitive paradigms and invention. The two phases of this project focus on completing individual Research & Documentation followed by team Analysis and Composition.
