ANALYSIS OF URBAN FORM - Tokyo

The focus of this project was to tell Tokyo‘s story through its urban layout and seek to understand the kind of city it is. The conclusion was established that Tokyo is a very organic and natural city, built outwards from its center in ring-line geography. The center of the city is outlined by the moat of the Imperial Palace, transitioning into the busy, vibrant downtown. The panels for this project all focus on the Palace, depicting various entry roads and city blocks that are adjacent to or provide access to the park. The figure-ground master plan of the city aims to further support the idea of how the organic nature of the street layouts is able to coexist with the planned areas to create an accessible and connected network of districts and neighborhoods all having their own valuable form and function.
